When The City Lights Turn Blue entered the BMAT Maltese Charts at Number 18 today! Superhero is still persevering in the charts at number 16! Way to start the new year! 🙂
Just like the big tabloids and important blogs, I decided to post of my favourite or most notable moments of the past year. Those who know me well know how forgetful I am so I opened up my google calendar and looked up my appointments to help jog my memory.
Recording Superhero — January 2013
I locked myself in the studio to record Superhero. Back then the song was a mere verse written in a cafe in Edinburgh back in 2009. The opening lines inspired me to continue the story of a stalker following his love interest. I decided to give the song an organic feel and record everything in-house in my little home recording studio. I spent most of my free time this month perfecting vocal lines, simple guitar riffs and mixing.
The release of Superhero — May 2013
Shooting for the Superhero video was held on May 4th. The song was set for release on May 17th, accompanied by the video. The team and I had just under 6 hours to set up the scene and props, shoot the video and clean up the mess. In the first days of May the pressure escalated. I ordered over 20 helium balloons, 60 other balloons, countless amounts of paper and props, making sure that everything is colour coordinated. I also met up with model Michelle Mifsud who was to feature in the video. We had one afternoon to shoot her paparazzi shots, through which she had to change look, clothes and poses. Once the shots were taken, I had just one day to choose the photos, edit them and print them on photo paper.
The result was amazing and even Michelle got freaked out when she walked in the room! The shoot was stressful but incredible fun! A huge thank you goes to Alistair and Monica Farrugia whose ideas and creativity were crucial for the shoot.
Superhero was released on May 17th as planned, with the video. Online reception was great.
Hitting the charts — June 2013
The song was finally featured on radio stations are started featuring in the BMAT Top 20 chart. For those of you in the dark, the BMAT chart records the number of plays of tracks on Maltese radios.
June was also special since rehearsals for rehearsals Akustika Leħen Malta commenced.
Akustika Leħen Malta — August 2013
Months of preparations for the Akustika concert finally came to fruition in two evenings of great Maltese music. I never felt closer to my fellow musicians and we gave a great show.
Strummin’ the Elements — October 2013
This year’s Strummin’ concert was one of the best in its history and I enjoyed being part of it so much. The highlight of this experience was singing Xemx as an encore to a packed hall together with my fellow friends Janice, Isabel and Matteo. Meeting the rest of the singers was something which I cherish. I made some great new friends!
Release of When The City Lights Turn Blue — November 2013
After months of hesitation I release When the City Lights Turn Blue. The track was planned to be released a year earlier but plans for the video dematerialised for 4 times. I accepted my fate and released the track with a lyric video which was shot in December 2012. The track is now on radio stations.
Announcement of Constellation — November 2013
I announced the release of my first official EP named Constellation. The 4-track EP is set for release in March 2014 and all tracks are written, 3 of which are recorded, 2 of which are already available for download from here. The facebook post announcing this release is my most popular in my facebook history. I must be doing something right 🙂
Ending the year in style — December 2013
December was meant to be a very busy month musically, but I had to take it easy due to a cold which has been pestering me for the best of 3 weeks. I end the year with a top 3 hit, Superhero, which has not left the Top 20 chart since June 2013 (that’s 36 weeks). I promised myself that 2014 will be a better year for me, and so I will work hard to make it a special one!
Happy New Year to all!
What felt like an undercover mission for months has finally come to fruition today. It is with great pleasure that I announce two very important things:
1. When The City Lights Turn Blue
My new single is out now! The song which has been haunting me for the best part of 5 years has finally been recorded, mastered and released. What is most important about this is that I am actually ecstatic with the result. A huge thank you goes to Kenny D’Ugo and Dave Cachia for producing the track with me, and to the talented Lesnich Vassallo for his amazing drum skills.
The launch of the new single comes with a little surprise too: it is part of an EP called Constellation which will be out in March 2014. The 4-track EP will feature When The City Lights Turn Blue, Superhero and 2 brand new tracks. Constellation is available on pre-order from here. When you pre-order you will get both available tracks now, and you will get the rest of the EP in March 2014. For those of you who opt to pre-order, you will get a beautifully designed lyric book in pdf format, together with the orchestral version of When The City Lights Turn Blue in March.
A huge thank you goes out to all of you who encouraged me to pursue my musical dreams and to all the deejays on the radios who have played my music during these past 5 years. It’s been incredible!

Here’s a silly way to say thank you for the great feedback I’ve been given until now. For those of you who are lost, my track is the third most-played local track on the radios right now. This comes as a very pleasant surprise, especially since this has been my most mellow track to date. Not only that, I was hard-headed enough to produce, record, mix, master the track and edit a video on my own accord with very little help. In short, hard work gets rewarded 🙂
Thank you all! Keep sharing the #stalkerlove
The BMAT chart was also published by The Malta Independent here.
What makes a great Sunday? Well, normally just a relaxing morning with a cup of coffee in hand and the day’s newspapers – and doing next to nothing. However, if you’re lucky enough to know you’re in Malta’s Top 20, the coffee tastes sweeter.
Thanks to all of you out there who played my song and shared the video on facebook and twitter! It’s great to get a little recognition for all the work. I don’t do music to get in the charts, but when I do I’m over the moon about it 🙂
Have a great Sunday and keep sharing the #stalkerlove.
It seems like Superhero is finally getting some press coverage. The press release has been published on The Sunday Times of Malta today. Check it out if you’ve got a copy 🙂
I’ve just gone through a couple of shots taken behind the scenes of the new music video. Alistair Farrugia was the man behind the lens for both the shots and the video. I can’t wait to upload them here… I’m just giving Mr Farrugia some time since he’s getting married end of this week. The bride’s a good friend of mine and the director of the video (Monica). They’re just two awesomely talented people 🙂 Best of luck to the future Mr & Mrs Farrugia!
